This bullet is designed to expand radically at intended impact velocities into living mammalian tissues. Expect a mushroom of about .85 caliber and penetration of around 18-24 inches depending on which bones are struck. This would be the ideal load for hunting smaller big game species, where very deep penetration is not needed and the bigger wound channel from an expanded bullet is desirable, such as deer or medium size black bear. The 500 JRH cartridge was designed by gun builder Jack Huntington to fit the Freedom Arms model 83 and other similarly sized revolvers. As such, it has nearly the same case head (.006 smaller in diameter) as the 500 S&W. With its slightly smaller case head, it will fit the tight ratchet system of the Freedom Arms model 83 and will still work great in any 500 S&W firearm.

This ammunition is designed to be a mild recoiling load that still has a high degree of utility. It will still penetrate 5 to 6 feet through muscle and bone. It will not hit as hard because of its lower velocity and therefore will not do as much damage along its path, but with that big flat nose, it will still make a 50 caliber hole along that terminal path. This bullet is hard cast, properly lubed and gas checked and will not cause lead fouling in any normally functional barrel. Check out the below velocities that we shot with our ammo in several modern pistols. We don’t believe that test barrels are a very real way of determining the true velocities of ammo out of real guns. So, as with all of our ammo, we use real firearms to determine real velocities. Note that the longest barrel did not generate the highest velocities with any load. This suggests that there are a lot more factors involved with velocities in internal ballistics than just barrel length.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Buffalo Bore Heavy 9mm +P+ Ammunition:

This loading features some positive developments for the 9MM, for those wanting an expanding bullet. First, the light weight 95gr. Barnes X-type bullet generates very little felt recoil, which aids in fast follow-up shots. Second, as do all X-type bullets, that all copper bullet, penetrates very deeply for a .355 diameter bullet that only weighs 95grs. Expect roughly 13 inches of penetration in ballistic gelatin.

Nearly all Buffalo Bore Tactical/self defense ammo features low flash powder and this load is no exception. We think low flash powder offers a huge tactical advantage to the shooter as almost all civilian shootings in the US happen in low light when the criminal element is most active and this ammo will not blind the shooter.

As with all Buffalo Bore loadings, we advertise real world velocities from real over-the-counter firearms, so the shooter can know what the ammo is actually achieving. The long time industry standard of using extra long test barrels to generate advertised velocities is dishonest to the customer as the customer has no idea what type of performance the ammunition actually delivers in the real world, which is the only place it matters.

    • 1524 fps — Walther P88-4 inch barrel
    • 1374 fps — Glock 19-4 inch barrel
    • 1508 fps — Browning Hi Power MK111-4.6 inch barrel
    • 1496 fps — Beretta 92F-4.9 inch barrel

You’ll note that some of the shorter barrels developed faster velocities than some of the longer barrels. This is due to barrel internal dynamics such as surface smoothness, land and groove dimensions, chamber dimensions, etc. Barrel length alone is not always an accurate determinate of velocity generated with any given load.

This load was reliable in all test pistols and exhibited excellent to good accuracy in all test pistols.

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 9mm Luger Subsonic 147 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point Low Flash Box of 20

Buffalo Bore subsonic 9MM Luger ammunition was designed to fill the need for full power suppressible ammo. While this ammo is full power, it is “Standard Pressure” and falls within the SAAMI guidelines of 35,000 PSI, so it is designed for use in ALL 9MM handguns, suppressed or otherwise and will not cause accelerated wear in your firearm. This 147gr Gold Dot bullet will mushroom in mammalian tissue at impact velocities as low as 800 fps and will penetrate roughly 20 inches depending on how much bone is struck and how much clothing must be penetrated. This is enough penetration to incapacitate even very large men that are heavily clothed and are struck at bad angles. For those wanting an easy shooting, full power, standard pressure 9mm load that will penetrate deeply and is designed for all 9mm pistols, this is it. This ammunition utilizes a flash suppressed powder that will not substantially affect your eyes in low light, which is when most civilian shootings occur in the US as that is when the criminal element is most active. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 9x18mm (9mm Makarov) 115 Grain Hard Cast Lead Flat Nose Box of 20

Buffalo Bore loads their ammunition with the highest quality components available to maximize the performance of the ammunition. This ammunition is safe to use in all 9×18 Makarov chambered firearms that are in proper working condition. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Buffalo Bore 9×18 Makarov Ammunition: Our introduction of a “heavy bullet for cartridge” 9X18 Makarov +P loading is the sole result of numerous customer requests. With millions of these pistols now on American soil and no +P heavy loadings available, this cartridge and the many pistol owners are suffering from the lack of serious fight stopping ammunition. This load is 20grs. heavier and 100 fps faster than standard 9X18 ammo.

This loading features a flash suppressed powder, so if you need to shoot in low light, you won’t be blinded by your own gun fire and this is a useful tactical advantage since around 95% of all civilian shootings in the US happen in low light while the criminal element is out and about.

Further, please note that the use of hard cast bullets (not lead but, Hard Cast) does NOT cause lead fouling in the polygonal rifling’s used in all 9X18 Makarov pistols. We found no appreciable leading in any of our Makarov test guns. It should also be noted that all of our test guns functioned and fed flawlessly with this load. We also experienced very good to excellent accuracy in all test guns.

Please note the real world velocities listed below from real world 9X18 Makarov pistols. At Buffalo Bore we always use real, ?over-the-counter’ firearms for our published velocities, as we feel the use of laboratory test barrels that give false, high velocities does the customer a disservice as each customer needs to know what their carry ammo will really do on-the-street in a real world situation.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Buffalo Bore 9×18 Makarov Ammunition:

Our introduction of +P 9X18 Makarov ammunition is the result of numerous customer requests. With no high quality +P ammunition available for the millions of Makarov pistols that are now in America, the American 9X18 pistol owner has no viable/effective self defense ammo for use in these high quality pistols, until now.

This new 95gr. JHP+P, 9X18 Mak loading, (Item # 34A) is roughly 200 fps faster than normal ball 95gr. Makarov ammo. This new +P load also features flash suppressed powder as roughly 95% of all civilian shootings in America occur in low light, when the criminal element is active. This ammunition will not blind the shooter in low light situations, which is an important tactical advantage.

This ammo was reliable and quite accurate in our test guns. We noted no accelerated wear from the use of +P loads in our test pistols, although common sense suggests that any +P ammo will wear any pistol at a faster rate than weaker ammo. Please note the below real world velocities from our stock over-the-counter test guns
