Handgun Ammunition

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 40 S&W +P 180 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point Box of 20

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE HEADSTAMP ON THIS BRASS: Due to limited supplies of brass, Buffalo Bore has begun loading +P and +P+ ammunition in brass that may not be indicated as such on the headstamp. Example: 9mm Luger +P+ ammunition may be designated as 9mm Luger +P or simply 9mm Luger on the headstamp.

Buffalo Bore loads their ammunition with the highest quality components available to maximize the performance of the ammunition. This ammunition is safe to use in all 40 S&W chambered firearms with a fully supported chamber. Most Glock 40 S&W do not have a fully supported chamber do not use this ammunition in Glock 40 S&W or other unsupported chamber pistols. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Buffalo Bore Heavy 40 S&W +P Ammunition:

All Buffalo Bore Heavy 40 S&W +P loads use flash suppressed powders that give high velocities at low pressures. Since over 90% of all human shootings in the USA happen in low light, we believe that flash suppressed powders are a potentially life saving advantage – you don’t want to be blind after you fire one shot in a life threatening, high stress situation.

There is such a variety of 40 S&W pistols in public use that we will not determine what pistols are compatible with which 40 S&W +P loads – this is your responsibility! We will add that this ammo is safe in pistols that use a fully supported chamber. Please read the safety notices below. The first one is taken form the Speer #13 loading manual. The second is taken from Hodgdons #27 loading manual.

    SAFETY NOTICE

“Some pistols chambered for the 40 S&W cartridge may not provide complete support of the case head. If this condition exists, normal pressure loads such as those shown here can cause the case wall to bulge or rupture at the unsupported point. Contact your firearm manufacturer to determine if your pistol completely supports the case head, or ask a gunsmith to inspect your pistol before using it with ANY ammunition. It is the gun owners responsibility to know his firearm and its capabilities and limitations.”

    40 S&W WARNING

“This data is intended for use in firearms which fully support the cartridge in the chamber. Use of this data in firearms which do not fully support the cartridge may result in bulged cases, ruptured cases, case head separation, or other conditions which may result in damage to the firearm and/or result in injury or death of the shooter or bystanders.”

Glock happens to chamber their 40 S&W pistols without a fully supported chamber and both of those above safety notices are likely aimed at Glock. I know of no other 40 S&W handguns being sold in the US that don’t have fully supported chambers. If you really want to shoot our 40S&W ammo in your Glock, have an after market barrel that uses a supported chamber, dropped into it. This is a fairly common practice and will give you the safety margin needed to fire our ammo in your Glock. It will also likely give you more velocity than the factory Glock barrel. I personally own two Glock Model 23’s. Both of mine are going to get after market barrels dropped in so that I can use this excellent ammo in them. The issue of Glock pistols not having a fully supported chamber is with the 40 S&W cartridge only, not 45 acp, 10mm, 9mm or 380 auto. While Glocks chambers are not fully supported in any of those calibers, only the 40 S&W brass is weak enough in the web for it to be a safety issue. I REPEAT, only the 40 S&W is a safety issue with chambers that are not fully supported. You do not need to be concerned with this issue when using our 45acp+, 10mm, 380 auto+P or 9mm+P or +P+ ammunition in Glock pistols.

Check out the velocities below that I shot with these loads in several modern pistols that I own. We don’t believe that test barrels are a very real way of determining real life velocities out of real life guns that you will be using. So, as with all of our ammo, we use real firearms to determine real velocities.

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 40 S&W 125 Grain Barnes TAC-XP Hollow Point Lead-Free Box of 20

Buffalo Bore loads their ammunition up to maximum SAAMI specifications, which delivers devastating performance on a wide range of game. Please note that this ammunition is standard pressure and is safe for use in all safe working condition 40 S&W firearms. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Buffalo Bore 40 S&W Standard Pressure Ammunition:

The lightweight 125gr. all copper Barnes bullet will mushroom readily, yet penetrate as deeply as a typical 165gr. JHP style bullet, while generating the low recoil and fast velocities of a light weight projectile. This aids in fast/accurate follow-up shots. Expect roughly 12 to 13 inches of penetration in living flesh and bone. This load utilizes a flash suppressed powder, which gives the shooter an important advantage as most shootings in the US occur in low light when the criminal element is most active. Blinding yourself with your first shot, leaves you very vulnerable. Accuracy was excellent in every test pistol. Feeding and function was also 100% in every test pistol. As always, we have used real world firearms to generate our published velocities. We feel the industry wide duplicitous practice of generating velocities from extra-long laboratory barrels is dishonest to the customer as he/she will not be able to duplicate those velocities in the real world, where it matters.

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 44 Remington Magnum +P 240 Grain Lead Soft Cast Hollow Point Gas Check Deer Grenade Box of 20

Buffalo Bore Heavy ammunition is loaded with the highest quality components to produce great accuracy and performance. From powder to bullet selection this load is made to be one of the best defense loads available. This ammunition is safe to fire in any steel frame revolver or rifle chambered in 44 Remington Magnum that is in safe working condition. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Heavy Deer Grenade 44 Magnum +P Ammunition:

Buffalo Bore’s Deer Grenade 44 Mag. +P is a 240gr. Massive, Hollow Nosed, 12 BHN cast bullet with a gas check traveling at the below velocities out of stock, real world, over-the-counter firearms:

    • 1935 fps — Marlin 1894 20 inch
    • 1897 fps — Marlin 1894 18 inch
    • 1871 fps — Marlin 1894 16.5 inch
    • 1535 fps — Ruger Redhawk 5.5 inch
    • 1466 fps — S&W MT Gun 4 inch
    • 1578 fps — Ruger Super Blackhawk 5.5 inch

This load is designed as the world’s premier deer load for 44 mag. The cast bullet is not considered soft, but it is not really a HARD cast bullet either as it only has a BHN (Brinell Hardness Number) of 12 so, it could be termed a medium/hard cast bullet. It performs as follows:

At an impact velocity of 1,100 fps it will mushroom to about 75 Cal. and should push right through any deer with a broadside shot.

At an impact velocity of 1,500 fps it will mushroom and some of the mushroom will fragment off and send bullet particles flying through the deer, but much of the mushroom and shank will remain intact and should push through any deer hit broadside.

At an impact velocity of 1,900 fps the entire mushroom will turn into shrapnel and send bullet particles all throughout the deer. The shank will remain intact, but will re-mushroom and do damage inside the deer and will probably push through any deer hit broadside.

Of course all these results will vary depending on how much bone, if any, you hit, etc. This load was designed specifically to do damage to deer sized game and as such does not penetrate like a hard cast flat nosed bullet. This bullet only penetrates about 30% as deep as a typical flat nosed hard cast bullet, which is perfect penetration for shallow game like deer, and medium sized pigs or black bear. This load is your best bet for immediately anchoring any deer with the 44 mag. cartridge that is not CNS (central nervous system) hit.

This bullet is properly alloyed, lubed and is gas checked; it will NOT lead-foul barrels. This load is designed to be safe in ALL/ANY, all steel firearms that are in normal operating condition. We do not recommend its use in lightweight alloyed revolvers as the bullets may jump the crimp.

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 44 Remington Magnum 200 Grain Hard Cast Lead Wadcutter Anti-Personnel Box of 20

Buffalo Bore Anti-Personnel ammunition is loaded with the highest quality components to produce great accuracy and performance. This load was designed for use in ANY / All 44 magnum firearms including those with alloy frames and cylinders. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Anti-Personnel 44 Magnum Ammunition:

This full profile wad cutter hard cast 44 magnum load was designed for the owners of 44 magnum firearms that choose to use those firearms for self defense. This load is specifically designed to permanently and quickly disable. The big flat wad cutter nose crushes living tissue, unlike mushroomed bullets that are slightly rounded on the nose and tend to slip and slide through living tissue. The crushing action of the flat nose keeps penetration straight and when penetration is straight, it is generally very deep, deep enough to obtain full penetration from any angle. The hard cast nose will not deform at these velocities so the nose profile remains constant (flat, with a sharp shoulder) along with bullet path and terminal damage. Noted NYPD ?stake out? officer Jim Cirillo used full profile wad cutters in his 38 SPL revolvers because they incapacitated his targets with certainty.
Unlike our other Anti-Personnel 44 magnum loads, this one utilizes a hard cast bullet, which will not mushroom and the resulting penetration is very deep. Expect at least 24 inches of straight-line penetration in mammalian tissue, thus allowing this load to also serve well on small to medium sized game such as deer, black bear and even elk. This hard cast construction keeps your bore from being substantially lead fouled even after hundreds of rounds.
We’ve utilized a flash suppressed powder to the shooter will not be blinded by his/her own gunfire should you be required to drop the hammer in low light.

Note our real world velocities taken from stock over-the-counter firearms. We prefer to establish advertised velocities from real-world firearms and not from extra long laboratory test barrels that give false high velocities. You know what you are getting in the real world, where it matters, with Buffalo Bore ammunition.

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 44 Remington Magnum 225 Grain Barnes XPB Hollow Point Lead-Free Box of 20

Buffalo Bore loads their ammunition up to maximum SAAMI specifications, which delivers devastating performance on a wide range of game. Please note that this ammunition is not intended for older guns. It is made for modern firearms only, as some of the ammunition could damage older and weaker firearms. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on 44 Rem. Mag. Ammunition:

This is an incredibly accurate, full power 44 Mag., lead free load. The long-for-weight all copper bullet uses up the limited powder capacity of the case and keeps us from driving the bullet any faster than we are currently doing. This 44 mag. load will work great and give adequate penetration for hunting big game species up to about 350 lbs. Since the bullet weight is relatively light, this load only generates moderate recoil.

At Buffalo Bore we always use real over-the-counter firearms to develop our published velocities. We believe the long time industry wide duplicitous practice of using extra long laboratory barrels to achieve exaggerated published velocities is unfair to the customer as he/she will never be able to duplicate such laboratory type velocities in the real world, where it matters.

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 44 Remington Magnum 240 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point Low Recoil Box of 20

Buffalo Bore Low Recoil ammunition is loaded with the highest quality components to produce great accuracy and performance. This load was designed for use in ANY / All 44 magnum firearms including those with alloy frames and cylinders. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Low Recoil 44 Magnum Ammunition:
This is a general purpose load for those that want to shoot deer sized animals and don’t want the recoil of much heavier bullets/loads.

Below are velocities from my personal guns. At Buffalo Bore we always give real world velocities from real over-the-counter firearms, so that you know exactly what you are getting in the real world, where it matters.

Buffalo Bore Heavy ammunition is loaded with the highest quality components to produce great accuracy and performance. From powder to bullet selection this load is made to be one of the best defense loads available. This ammunition is safe to fire in any firearm chambered in 44 Remington Magnum that is in safe working condition. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Lower Recoil 44 Magnum Ammunition:

There have been several requests for a full power 44 mag. Load that recoils substantially less than our other Heavy 44 mag. Loads, but will still penetrate deeply and be deadly on game animals.

When S&W introduced their model 329PD, we noticed that some of those scandium revolvers would experience sticky extraction with our Heavy loads and the recoil in the light weight scandium 329PD guns was horrendous, to say the least. This recoil would some times cause bullets to “jump crimp” thus tying up the revolver.

In order to alleviate the recoil, crimp jump and sticky extraction, we have developed this load. It is still full power, but uses a lighter weight, super hard cast, gas checked bullet and will still penetrate very deeply in big game despite its lighter weight. This load is ideal for those of you who carry the S&W model 329PD. This load will not lead your barrel.

This load falls well under SAAMI pressure specs and is safe to use IN ANY 44 Magnum providing your gun is in normal working condition.

Now there exists a serious full power 44 mag. load that will penetrate big bones (including a bears skull) and drive deeply into living organs and tissues, that has minimum recoil.

See the below ballistics fired out of my personal revolvers.

    • S&W 329PD (4 inch)—1264 fps

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 44 Remington Magnum 270 Grain Jacketed Flat Nose

Buffalo Bore loads their ammunition up to maximum SAAMI specifications, which delivers devastating performance on a wide range of game. Please note that this ammunition is not intended for older guns. It is made for modern firearms only, as some of the ammunition could damage older and weaker firearms. The jacketed flat nose bullet is designed to mushroom at handgun and rifle velocities. It will penetrate about 18 to 20 inches in muscle and bone and is a great bullet for hunting small to average bear or hogs. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 44 Remington Magnum 300 Grain Jacketed Flat Nose

Buffalo Bore Heavy ammunition is loaded with the highest quality components to produce great accuracy and performance. From powder to bullet selection this load is made to be one of the best defense loads available. This ammunition is safe to fire in any steel frame revolver or rifle chambered in 44 Remington Magnum that is in safe working condition. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Heavy 44 Magnum Ammunition:

Item 4B (300gr. JFN) is designed for super deep penetration at revolver speeds, but will mushroom and penetrate less deeply at rifle speeds. At handgun speeds you can expect a solid 3 feet of penetration in muscle and bone and at rifle speeds expect roughly 2 feet of penetration in muscle and bone. At handgun velocities, this bullet will act just like item 4A in living tissue. The greater velocities generated by the longer barrel of the rifle will cause the bullet to mushroom and that large mushroom will make a much bigger diameter hole in tissue, but that frontal area on the mushroomed bullet will cut down the depth of penetration.

You’ll note my below velocities form over-the-counter revolvers and rifles.

    • Ruger Super Blackhawk with 6 inch barrel– 1330 fps
    • Ruger Redhawk 5.5 inch barrel– 1334 fps
    • 1894 Marlin with 18.5 inch barrel– 1770 fps

Item 4B is recommended for all STEEL revolvers and rifles on today’s market. It is NOT suitable for scandium or aluminum alloy revolvers.

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 44 Remington Magnum 305 Grain Lead Long Flat Nose

Buffalo Bore Heavy ammunition is loaded with the highest quality components to produce great accuracy and performance. From powder to bullet selection this load is made to be one of the best defense loads available. This ammunition is safe to fire in any steel frame revolver or rifle chambered in 44 Remington Magnum that is in safe working condition. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Heavy 44 Magnum Ammunition:

Item 4A (305gr. Hard Cast gas Checked LFN) is designed for super deep penetration on large game. The big flat nose keeps the bullet penetrating straight and thus deep. You can expect a good three + feet of penetration. The flat nose also does considerably more damage than a round nosed type of bullet as the flat nose cuts and smashes it way through living matter, while round nosed bullets tend to slip and slide through matter, doing much less damage along the bullet’s path and achieving more shallow penetration due to getting sideways while slipping and sliding through matter.

You’ll note my below velocities from over-the-counter revolvers and rifles.

    • Ruger Bisley cut down to 6 inches——1328 fps
    • Ruger Red Hawk 5.5 inch—————–1331 fps
    • Marlin 1894 18.5 inch———————-1779 fps

Item 4A is recommended for all STEEL revolvers and rifles on today’s market. It is not suitable for scandium or aluminum alloy revolvers.

  • Buffalo Bore Ammunition 44 Special 190 Grain Lead Soft Cast Hollow Point Gas Check Box of 20

Buffalo Bore Heavy ammunition is loaded with the highest quality components to produce great accuracy and performance. From powder to bullet selection this load is made to be one of the best defense loads available. This ammunition is safe to fire in any firearm chambered in 44 Special or 44 Remington Magnum except for Charter Arms Bull Dog. Do Not Fire this ammunition in a Charter Arms Bull Dog.

Owner of Buffalo Bore Tim Sundles on Heavy 44 Special Ammunition:

Our purpose in developing this HEAVY 44 SPL load was to duplicate our renowned 38 SPL +P 158 gr. soft cast HP @ 1000 fps out of a 2 inch revolver, (Item 20A) but with a 190gr. 44 caliber bullet. This load was designed SPECIFICALLY for defensive use against humans. You can see our below velocities fired from my real world stock revolvers. We use only real world firearms in developing our published velocities and feel it is dishonest to use extra long laboratory test barrels that give false high velocities that over-the-counter carry guns cannot duplicate. You need to know what your ammo is doing in the real world, not a lab.

    • 1.1156 fps – Ruger Super Blackhawk, 5.5 inch barrel
    • 2.1098 fps – S&W MT Gun, 4 Inch barrel
    • 3.1046 fps – S&W mod. 696, 3 inch barrel
    • 4.1057 fps – S&W mod. 396, 3 inch barrel
    • 5.1005 fps – S&W mod. 296, 2 inch barrel

We developed this bullet to be soft (6 BHN) enough to mushroom at impact speeds around 750 fps, yet we wanted it hard enough (pure lead is 4 BHN) that it would not lead a normal revolver barrel. This bullet accomplishes both requirements. Depending on impact velocities, expect about 18 inches of penetration in living mammalian tissues, which should give ample penetration at bad angles to disable.

This bullet was also designed with a special crimp groove and the case mouth is heavily crimped and this bullet will NOT jump crimp in the lightweight alloy revolvers, provided you rotate the unfired rounds and thus do not expose unfired rounds to the recoil of more than about 10 firings.

We are using a flash suppressed powder so you won’t become blinded by your own gunfire in the likely event you drop the hammer in a low-light defensive situation.
